September Meeting

If you haven't stopped in to a meeting yet, you really should!  They are so much fun!  It is so good to fellowship with others (and to work on a project together!)

Last night we had 7 ladies, 3 of which were new!  Thank you for joining us!  We were able to finish 8 dolls and have a lot more ready to finish.  There are many stages and I think we have dolls in all of them right now!!

If you can't sew, or can't transport your machine- do not fret!  There are enough things for you to do.  We had ladies cutting out pattern pieces, or stuffing little arms and legs.  You could even just cheer us on!

We have a lot more dolls to finish, so would you please consider helping?!  If you can't make the meetings, maybe you would be willing to work on some dolls on your own time.  Please contact Carey (carey_fritz@yahoo.com) if you are interested in doing this.  She has the patterns and can give you some direction!

Here are some photos from our time together!

Below is a doll that my daughter (she's almost 7 years old) made, from cutting to sewing, she did most of the work!

These ladies were having a sew-off!  Both finishing dolls at the same time.  It is such a joy when you finally complete a doll!  There was definitely some cheering going on!

Below is the lineup of the completed dolls (the 2 on the right will have faces embroidered soon.)

Shoe box full of dolls!

Please help us meet our goal of having a doll to put in each box turned in at HZUMC!  Don't you think these dolls will put a HUGE smile on a child's face.  I can just picture them loving these dolls so much.

Next meeting is October 21, 6:00pm-8:30pm.

I am considering adding a few more sewing nights, so stay tuned for updates.

August Meeting

Hello!

We had our second meeting last night-  we had 6 ladies attend, 4 from before and 2 new ladies!  So excited to have some new ladies join us.  We had a great time and really made some progress.  These ladies are so focused that believe it or not, there were some times that it was quiet except for the sewing machines!  A lot more dolls have been cut out and we have some dolls completed!  We still have a long way to go to reach our goal of 250 dolls.  Will you please help us?

What we need from you:
  • Come help us sew!
  • Come help us iron, cut or stuff the dolls
  • Consider packing a shoe box (or 2, or 3) for Operation Christmas Child
    • National Collection Week is November 17-24, 2014
    • Drop-off at HZUMC
  • Donate fabric, felt, scraps, stuffing, thread or scissors
  • Make a monetary donation (to be used for supplies)
  • PRAY!

The pattern that we are using for the dolls came from Dolls and Daydreams.  She designs all her own patterns and this one is available for FREE.  This is where I purchase the patterns to make my dolls.

Thank you so much for your support!  Below are a few pictures from our time together.

Next meeting is September 16, 6:00pm-8:30pm.

This is the fabric donations that we have received so far - 2 rubbermaid tubs FULL!
THANK YOU!!!

We hope to see you next month!!

First project

I know you are anxious to hear what our first project will be!
So here is the reveal.  I will let the pictures do most of the talking.

We will be making dolls for Operation Christmas Child shoe boxes.
Our goal is to have enough to put in each box that someone turns in to the church!
We will start sewing in July.

Hope to see you July 15 @ 6:00pm ready to sew!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I am excited to share that HZ has a new ministry - the Daughters of Dorcas sewing ministry. We will meet once a month with the purpose of spreading God's love through various sewing projects. We will be partnering with various organizations to make items for people in need.

We are kicking off with an informational meeting on Tuesday, June 17 at 7:30pm.  We will meet in Room 005 in the Adult Education Wing at HZUMC.  We will go over our vision, mission statement and what our first project will be. There will be light refreshments available.  It should be a fairly short meeting- probably no more than half an hour.
Don't worry if you can't make it- you can join us at any time!

If you do plan on attending, please RSVP to:
carey_fritz@yahoo.com or 814-244-0186
so that we have a general idea how many to expect.

We will begin our monthly sewing nights on July 15 at 6:00pm in Room 005. We will meet on the 3rd Tuesday of every month after that. Please bring your sewing machine, thread, scissors, and other essentials to get sewing. We have a project already lined up and are eager to get started!

Not much of a seamstress?! You can still come and help with ironing, cutting and stuffing! We would love to have you join us, we could even teach you how to stitch.

If you aren't able to join us, but would like to help us get started, please consider donating some fabric (cotton/flannel- various colors and patterns, scraps are good too), thread (any color), or filling/stuffing. We will have a basket in the narthex labeled for Daughters of Dorcas donations. We would also appreciate your prayers for this brand new ministry!

Thank you in advance for your support!
