Progress

We had our first meeting of October this week.  It was a lot of fun, we had 5 people attend and made great progress.  We are currently working on walker/wheelchair bags and neck pillows.  We have around 5 wheel chair bags and 7 neck pillows completed.

The patterns are simple and the fabric is abundant!

Here are a few pictures from our evening.

Neck pillows

Currently on the sewing machine...

The latest project for the Daughters of Dorcas is wheel chair/walker bags and neck pillows for Evergreen Health and Rehabilitation Center in Harmony.  You can read about the facility here.

We were not given a set number that we need to make, but we do have the next few months to sew them, so I am hoping that we will get a lot done!

We started on them at last September meeting.  I had a pillow and a bag done as a sample.  During the evening we finished 2 more bags and 2 more pillows!  They are a quick, easy sew.  I found the patterns for free on Pinterest.

This is the pillow pattern  -->  pillow pattern

This is the bag pattern.  I did modify it a little to add an outside pocket  -->  wheel chair bag pattern

If you like to sew, please consider joining us!  It's a fun evening and you get to sew. :)

Here are some pictures of the items we have finished so far.

Next Meeting is October 6 at 6:00pm.

3rd Project Complete!!

3rd Project Complete

Our third project is done already!  We were asked to make welcome bags for the women's ministry at HZ (W.IN.G.S. - Women IN God's Service).  We were happy to oblige!!  We used fabric from the stash of wonderful donations that we have received.

We completed 55 bags!!

Each woman attending the retreat in September received a bag.  The bags were filled with goodies- pen, journal, water, candy, etc!

Here are a few pictures showing the finished bags.

HE did it again!

Our second project has come to completion!  God has been faithful and has given us success once again.

My how the time has flown!  I am sorry that I have not posted any updates lately.  I have forgotten to take my camera that past few times- I was so focused on sewing!

Here are a few pictures of the bags that we have sewn.  Aren't there just so many gorgeous fabrics?!

This first picture are some of the bags that my 5 year old made.  He did all the sewing on his own, I just pinned it all together for him.  To quote him "These bags are easy!  They are just straight lines."

Each bag will contain a card with a message on it!  We set it up in the sewing room so that ladies could help send some love notes to Mexico.

We finished the bags and counted them all.

We made 88 bags to send to Mexico!
(Our goal was at least 75.)

Praise God!  It was a wonderful project and a lot of fun.  We prayed over the bags and for the people that will receive them.  I hope that they will be blessed by the love that went into making these.

I would like to say THANK YOU to those who donated fabric.  We didn't buy any fabric to make these and we have enough fabric to start the next project.

THANK YOU to Rob who provided (and CUT) all the pieces of cardboard for the bottom of the bags.

THANK YOU to all the women who gave their time toward this project.  There were many hands that touched these bags and I thank God for each one of you.

THANK YOU for praying for this ministry and for helping our first 2 projects to be successful!

April Meetings

In April we had two meetings and made some progress!
We have had around 4 people at each meeting, with others sewing on their own.
We have 23 bags completely done and a bunch more started!
Slow and steady wins the race.

A special THANK YOU to the person who dropped off this fabric last Sunday!
I fell in love with it and turned it into a bag the day I picked it up.

Here is a picture of our custom labels that we are attaching to each bag.  Thanks to some generous donations, we have almost enough money to purchase enough for all 100 bags.
THANK YOU for your generosity!
At this point, we run completely on donations.

March Meetings

As of March, we started meeting twice a month!  The 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month.  We will continue on this schedule for all future meetings.  I believe that this will lead to more productivity and more opportunity for ladies to come and join us.  But do not feel obligated to attend both times.

Our first March meeting was rather small due to the weather.  Last night we had 5 ladies and 3 additional ones joined us later in the evening.

We have made great strides and each lady has found an area that she enjoys working.  As of last night we have at least 16 bags 100% complete and more in process.

Our time together has proven to be fun and very uplifting!  If you have not stopped in, you should.  We would love to have you.

It's not just a ministry to make things, it's a ministry to build relationships (with each other.)  It has been a blessing in my life and I hope that it continues for a long, long time.

Thank you for your support!

Each bag is unique!

Hands at work.

Gorgeous colors!

My 7 year old is working on a bag too.

The stack of bags so far!  Aren't they so beautiful?!
Next month we'll line them up for a better photo.

Next meeting is Tuesday, April 7 at 6:00pm.
See you there!

We are looking forward to gathering together this week- would you consider joining us??

See you Tuesday- 6:00pm @ HZUMC, Room 005.

February Meeting

Our February meeting is in the books! There were 6 of us and we had a great time.

I forgot my camera, so I am short on pictures to share. But I did snap a couple today of some of the completed bags. We now have a handful of bags complete - I would say we are about 10% of the way to our goal.

The bags are simple to sew and are going to a great cause. If you want to learn more about our project, please check out this post --> Current Project

Please consider joining us for our next meeting!
March 17, 2015 @ 6:00pm.

January Meeting

The January meeting was the start of our new project!

We had 6 people and we made a lot of progress to get this project started.

We have some patterns cut out, bags being sewn and at least one completely done.  I know we are just starting, but this is such a fun project!  Every one who came had a great time.

We would love for you to join us!  Even if you can't sew, there are many other things you could do.  We need ladies to cut, iron and pin.

Thank you for attending and working to share God's Love around the world.
This time in Mexico City!

If you would like to know more about our current project, please check out this post.

Here are a few ways that you could help the ministry:

* Pray.
For the project to go smoothly
and more importantly for those that will receive these bags in Mexico.

* Come Sew! Or cut. Or iron.

* Sew on your own.
I know that it can be hard to get to a meeting.
If you would like to sew on your own time please let me know.
I would be happy to get you a pattern and some fabric.

* Donate fabric.
We have fabric to get us started, but we could use some more.
For this project we are in need of heavier fabric.

* Donate cardboard.
Heavy (2-ply) cardboard is needed for the bottom of the bags.
It must be at least 12" x 8.5".

No longer needed.  Someone has generously donated
ALL the cardboard that we will need for this project (cut to size too!)
Praise God!

* Monetary donation.
We are currently operating on the generous donations of goods.
In the near future we may need to purchase some items for our ongoing use.
(Mainly looking to purchase labels to sew onto our items.
We have some, but are in need of more.)

Thank you for your support!
Without your generous donations, we would not be able to make these items.
Each item is a blessing to someone in need.

Next Meeting:
February 17, 2015
6:00pm - 8:30pm
Room 005 HZUMC

This is just some of the fabric that we have received!
Such a blessing!!

These are the custom labels we are looking to get more of.
Our goal is to be able to put a label on every item we make.

Our work space.

Pieces cut and ready to be sewn.

Bag in progress.

Almost finished!

Another bag almost completed!
