New Year, New Project

Welcome to 2017!

Since it's a new year, it's time to start a new project!

We will be making smile bags and smile dolls for Operation Smile.  If you click here, you can read about the organization and why they exist.  They are making a difference in children's lives and I think that our group can help their efforts.

We will spend the next 5-6 months working on this project, in that time I believe we can accomplish a lot!

Please consider joining us.  There will be cutting, sewing and threading ribbon that will need to be done on each item.  We would love to have you!  Please contact me and let me know if you would like to be a part of this ministry.  I do send out email reminders of meetings and if we have to cancel, so please contact me by clicking here so that I can add you to the list.

Thank you for supporting this ministry and for spreading the love of Jesus one stitch at a time.

Operation Christmas Child Shoeboxes

In 2016 we finished out the year by sewing hand puppets for Operation Christmas Child Shoeboxes.  We started out with a few animal patterns and by the time we were done we had dozens of different ideas!!

Our sewing group grew as well- we had many new faces (even some more children!) attend.  We had to set up more tables!!  What a blessing!!

I pray that 2017 brings even more growth and more projects so that we can bless others in our community and around the world.

Here are some highlights of our time creating the hand puppets!  Please consider joining us in this New Year.

Little Dresses for Africa

I'm a little behind on updating.....

We completed our sixth project which was sewing Little Dresses for Africa.  We had a great time picking out fabrics and sewing these.  We completed 28 dresses and sent them on their way to Africa!!  We hope that these are a blessing to those that receive them and that they would feel the Love of Jesus as they wear them.  They were certainly sewn with LOVE!

One Project Finished, Another Project Started!

It's a new year, so that means a new project!

First, let me recap what we just finished.  We spent January finishing up our last project: neck pillows and walker bags for Evergreen Nursing Home.

We completed 13 neck pillows and 16 walker/wheelchair bags!!

Thank you to everyone who helped!
We dropped them off today and the activities director was very excited!!!
She was going to pass them out at the resident's BINGO game.

Here are some pictures of the completed items:
(all made from your generous donations of fabric!!)

For the next project we have decided to sew dresses for

We have already gone through our fabric donations and pulled out all fabric that would be big enough and appropriate for the African climate.  We have fabric to make quite a range of sizes, from small to extra-large.
These dresses can be made with pillowcases, but don't have many of those.

If you are interested in donating a pillowcase (or 2 or 3) please let me know!  We will gladly take them and transform them into a dress for a girl in Africa.

Thank you for your continued support of this ministry!
Through YOU many lives are being touched.

Progress

We had our first meeting of October this week.  It was a lot of fun, we had 5 people attend and made great progress.  We are currently working on walker/wheelchair bags and neck pillows.  We have around 5 wheel chair bags and 7 neck pillows completed.

The patterns are simple and the fabric is abundant!

Here are a few pictures from our evening.

Currently on the sewing machine...

The latest project for the Daughters of Dorcas is wheel chair/walker bags and neck pillows for Evergreen Health and Rehabilitation Center in Harmony.  You can read about the facility here.

We were not given a set number that we need to make, but we do have the next few months to sew them, so I am hoping that we will get a lot done!

We started on them at last September meeting.  I had a pillow and a bag done as a sample.  During the evening we finished 2 more bags and 2 more pillows!  They are a quick, easy sew.  I found the patterns for free on Pinterest.

This is the pillow pattern  -->  pillow pattern

This is the bag pattern.  I did modify it a little to add an outside pocket  -->  wheel chair bag pattern

If you like to sew, please consider joining us!  It's a fun evening and you get to sew. :)

Here are some pictures of the items we have finished so far.

Next Meeting is October 6 at 6:00pm.

3rd Project Complete!!

3rd Project Complete

Our third project is done already!  We were asked to make welcome bags for the women's ministry at HZ (W.IN.G.S. - Women IN God's Service).  We were happy to oblige!!  We used fabric from the stash of wonderful donations that we have received.

We completed 55 bags!!

Each woman attending the retreat in September received a bag.  The bags were filled with goodies- pen, journal, water, candy, etc!

Here are a few pictures showing the finished bags.
